Ravensvale
Ravensvale is a small village, being in the west of the Kingdom, in no dangerous proximity to the border with the Confederacy. The village is nestled up against the foothills of the Alu's Tooth mountain range and is surrounded by lush forests. Its main exports are furs and lumber, and the village lies on one of the primary routes down from the mines of Alu's Tooth. The Raven River runs through the village, flowing south, and it is by this route that lumber from the surrounding forests is transported to more civilized lands. The only road connecting Ravensvale to the outside world is narrow and hilly, treacherous to traverse mounted. The closest settlement of any noteable size is Peldalor Castle to the east, which can be reached in about a week, given good weather.
Despite its remoteness, Ravensvale makes a tidy profit off its fur trade, and the custom of young noblemen. Ravensvale is home to the Westriver Tower, a Kingdom-renowned library and one of the very few places of learning in the Kingdom that hold books of arcane learning, and thus many a wealthy nobleman and merchant send their sons here to be educated. Sir Rythman Delsdale, an aged and retired knight serves both as the head steward of the Tower, and the headmaster of its academy. Veldwyn Garnwall, a half-mad and extremely charismatic philosopher, is one of the more noteable instructors at the Westriver academy. Veldwyn is rumored to be a wizard of no small power, though he never makes an outward display of such.
Father Esteban is the local priest at Ravensvale's small temple. He is a kind man, and fiercly pious, though Alus above has not seen fit to grant him miracles. The only other noteable member of the church staff is Jocob Downhill, the town undertaker.
Sir Hedran Delsdale, Rythman's son, is the head of the town militia, a guard consisting of nearly every male born in Ravensvale. The militia has never been called into active duty in living memory.
Viscount Dalwin Darkmoore is the local lord of Ravensvale, having command over one family of hereditary knights, ten peasant soldiers, and an anual income of fifteen gold crowns. He is directly the vassal of the Duke of Peldalor and indirectly, as are all minor noblemen, the vassal of the King. Most villagers just call him 'mayor.'
Ravensvale is home to a rather large inn, understandable when one realizes that the Westriver Tower has no accomidations for students. Those wealthy sons of merchants and noblemen that come to Ravensvale must make their permanent lodgings here, at the Westriver Inn and Tavern. This establishment is owned by the Delsdale family. The manager is Maggie Delsdale, the wife of Hedran Delsdale serves as the head innkeeper while Delsaena Delsdale, Hedran's older sister, serves as the head cook. Maerie Delsdale, Hedran's younger sister, is one of the more prominant barmaids.
Dagus Finely owns the town smithy 'Finely Arms and Armor.' Despite the name, Finely rarely has an order for weapons, though he has enough skill at it to service the Delsdale family's hereditary sword and armor.
